There is a shortage of teachers living in rural areas in many of the countries we work in and as a result many children dropout from school and find work.
In Ghana for instance there has been a consistent decline in the proportion of trained teachers at primary school level, and research shows there is a need for teacher recruitment, training and deployment, particularly in the remote Northern regions we work in.

Childreach International's Teaching Assistant Programme aims to meet this need by recruiting and training teaching assistants in the northern region of Ghana using locals who are already living there, to help educate 5000 children a year.
Many primary educated children are however denied furthering their education or learning new skills with which to enter the labour market, as secondary education is not yet free in many countries.

Therefore, the Vocational Training Centre (VTC) programme provides technical skills to vulnerable children from poor families and provide them with the skills to develop their future potential. Childreach International has 2 flagship VTC's in Tanzania currently training 125 students, as well as supporting several projects in India offering vocational training to disadvantaged youths.
