For an international organisation such as Childreach International, Striking a balance between necessary travel and environmental protection is a tricky business.  The Childreach Environmental Care Programme (CECP) works to achieve just this. Based around a philosophy of innovation, respect and care for the environment, the new scheme aims to offset the charity’s carbon emissions and repopulate heavily deforested woodland areas in the developing world.

Utilising the numerous hands of our fundraising programme participants we run sustainable and responsible tree-plating projects across Africa and Asia in a bid to; offset our carbon footprint, support local communities and educate visitors in the importance of minimal impact.  It is estimated that a single tree will absorb 1.3 tonnes of C0₂ in its life time. Although not a cure for global warming, it is an effective means of working towards a sustainable world.  Our newly planted trees maintain their local microclimate, creating a natural defence against droughts by supporting the underground water table.
