eaga praise Childreach International's Futurebuilding Print E-mail

This winter we reported on the work of eaga plc volunteers, who travelled with Childreach International to a remote region in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. Whilst there they witnessed the invaluable effects of sustainable development, when they renovated a school and helped children claim back their right to education.

Determination and a strong desire to help those less fortunate was key to their success; by December 2009, Nkosangana and Mrupanga Schools had been fully renovated.

Now eaga’s hard graft and dedication, under the guidance of Childreach International’s “School Improvement Programme”, has dramatically improved education services in the rural Moshi District. The construction of toilets, kitchens, classrooms and the completion of essential repairs enable children to learn in safe environments, which protect them from the risk of diseases such as diarrhoea and provide amenities that will improve their school performance.

While out in Tanzania, eaga volunteers were asked a few questions by Childreach International staff to let others know about the rewarding experience that is Futurebuilding. Here are some of their thoughts.

Were you embraced by the community? Were they supportive?

“The community was great. I learned a lot about the culture thanks to Childreach International staff as well as the community. They were really supportive.

"I had an amazing time and I will never forget the experience.”

“Yes, they more than supportive; the kids were superb, and the local workers were very amazing.

Teachers were always around to help us communicate with the children and offered help where ever possible.”

“The community was extremely supportive.

Children were always keen to get involved in the work.”

Were your expectations of the Futurebulding experience met?

“Yes, my expectations were exceeded, nothing was too much trouble and we were treated amazingly. The campsite was so well organized.”

What are your comments on the services at the camp?

“Perfect service! The cook and waiters looked after us really well and didn’t mind cooking a separate meal for people who needed one. Hot water was always available for showers.

“Perfect! The hot showers were a nice surprise”
